John Westcott
John Westcott had his musical light bulb moment as a young child inspired by The Beatles American debut on television. “I want to do THAT” . Fast forward to 1975 where he attended Old Mill Senior High in Glen Burnie, Maryland and was a member of the Folk Rock Group directed by Tim Landers. During his senior year, he was the guitarist for the high school production of Godspell. After getting the chance to perform on stage he was hooked.During the 1980’s and 90’s John discovered the blues at the iconic Full Moon Saloon in Baltimore, MD and for many years he could be found there on Thursday nights sitting in with some of the best players in Baltimore/DC area. In the new millennium, John joined drummer Rich Stewart to form The Blues Doctors with guitarist Phil Gardner. The band morphed into Blue Thrill and thrilled fans at weddings and parties in the Annapolis, Maryland area, returning annually for the Eastport Yacht Club’s Hospice Cup and local festivals.
Relocating to southeast Georgia during the COVID years, John now anchors the Woodbine Opry Country Band playing lead guitar. John joined the Almost June acoustic family playing lead guitar after meeting June and Paula in the music circle where they found a unique synergy in their shared love of soulful music from any genre.
